Mamba: Closure of 3 hospitals possible by June 30

TUGUEGARAO CITY,  Philippines– Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba said the closure of three community hospitals in Santa Ana, Alcala and Gattaran towns is possible by June 30 due to the non-passage of the 2017 executive budget.

In a press release, the Cagayan provincial information office (CPIO) quoted Mamba saying they will be forced to close the said hospitals as they would not have enough fund to pay the contractual employees of the district hospitals under the re-enacted budget.

The term of the contractual employees of the provincial government will expire June 30.

The governor said this will be a result of the continues “bullheadedness” of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan not to pass the proposed budget for the first calendar year of his administration.

The said proposed budget, according to him, contained the funds for the continuous operation of the community hospitals.

Mamba said the Provincial Health Office (PHO) will have to transfer the permanent employees and medical practitioners to level 1 district hospitals to fill in the required number of staff for a district hospital to be allowed to operate.

With this, Mamba said the community hospitals will have to give way for district hospitals.

He claimed that Sangguniang Panlalawigan members are “politicking, instead of keeping in mind the welfare and interest of the Cagayanos.”

Earlier, the provincial board clarified that they did not disapprove Mamba’s proposed budget, instead, they only “remanded” it for revision and correction.

The provincial board said it is their job to ensure the budget is “sound” and “fitting” to the current needs of the Cagayanos.

They also added that Mamba only submittted the budget January this year, when he should have submitted it early October 2016. Northernforum.net
