PSA to update list of establishments in Cagayan Valley, PH

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) will once again conduct a survey this year to update the list of establishments (LE) in the country.

The updating of LEs or ULE is the first phase of PSA’s Census of Philippine Business and Industry (CPBI).

The ULE covers basic characteristics of establishments to update the Statistical Business Register (SBR) for the preparation of the sample census frame, PSA said.

The 2018 ULE will cover about 1.28 million establishments from 27,832 barangays listed in the preliminary 2017 LE.

As of June 30, 2017, PSA has listed 916,726 business establishments throughout the country.

PSA said the ULE will provide reliable statistical frame for the conduct of establishment, enterprise censuses, or surveys; provide bases for sampling and coverage decisions; and create of list of enterprises.

Further, the ULE will also be used to compile micro, small, medium enterprises statistics and determine new economic activities as input for updating or revising the industry classification.

PSA 02 Regional Director Marilyn Estrada said the enterprise-based surveys such as the ULE help the PSA in getting indicators on the performances of the region’s businesses and industries.

“The LE covers selected establishments  with economic activities classified into 18 industry sections [such as agriculture, services, and industry sectors] as defined in the 2009 Philippine Standard Industrial Classification (PSIC),” PSA said.

Cagayan Valley has a total of 29,038 establishment by legal organization. Some 26,112 or 89.92% come from single proprietorship.

With this, Estrada has asked for the cooperation of business owners in the region in order to get and reflect data that is “nearest to reality.”

Although there is a census compliance mechanism, the extreme measure to be applied when a business owner does not wish to share information to PSA, Regional Statistical Operations and Coordination Division Chief OIC Engineer Girme Bayucan said they have yet to enforce this in the region.

Estrada assured all information divulged by owners and operators are protected under the Data Privacy Act.

PSA 02 disseminated the results of the 2015 Annual Survey of Philippine Establishments (ASPBI) and the 2015 Survey on Information and Technology (SICT) to the media and other stakeholders at Las Palmas, San Jose Village here on Friday, May 18. Northernforum.net
