TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Field Office 02 (RFO2) inaugurated the Cagayan Valley Mushroom Research and Development Center in San Vicente, City of Ilagan, Isabela.

In a press release on Thursday, May 17, DA said the center is expected to intensify promotion of mushroom production in the region.

The agency noted that mushroom production is emerging as a “productive endeavor” of farmers in Cagayan Valley.

“Said edifice was established to support the research and development (R&D) activities on processing of agricultural waste into sustainable and competitive mushroom production towards food security and safety in Region 02,” DA-RFO2 said in the release.

The said research and development center is located at DA-Regional Crop Protection Center (RCPC) in Ilagan.

The blessing and inauguration of the center coincided with the Panagdadapun and 1st Makan Festival.

Executive Director Nicomedes Eleazar of the Bureau of Agricultural Research (BAR), which funded the said project, and DA RFO2 Regional Executive Director Lorenzo Caranguian led the inauguration.

DA said products made out of mushroom have been developed, such as rice mushroom polvoron, miki, crispy bites, chamfee, cookies, muffin, and bola bola, among others.

“The DA-RFO 02, through its research centers and experiment stations, had already undertaken training on production and processing to interested farmers, cooperatives and local government units,” the agency added in the release. Northernforum.net
