TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Students from various places in the Cagayan Valley Region staged their local inventions to the opening of Regional Inventions Contests and Exhibits, Robinsons Place.
On Wednesday morning, August 28, Engr. Sancho Mabborang, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 2 graced the opening of the activity. “I encourage you to be more creative and innovative like our very own Diosdado Banatao. There are much to improve, now that we are in the generation of creativity and innovation”.
“Hindi lingid sa kaalaman ng publiko na ang pananaliksik at pag-unlad o Research and Development ay isa sa mga pangunahing Gawain ng DOST at ito ay lalong mapapalakas sa pamamagitan ng pagsulong ng mga appropriate and high impact science, technology, innovation (STI) activities kagaya ng Regional Inventions Contest and Exhibit (RICE)”, Engr. Mabborang said.
RICE is a program under Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI) which was tasked to implement Republic Act No. 7459 otherwise known as “Inventors and Invention Incentives Act.
TAPI has various program of assistance that provide encouragement and support both technical and financial to invention-related activities of Filipino inventors.
Engr. Mabborang explains “The contest gives encouragement to inventors to use their inventive capability by competing for cash rewards and recognition both locally and internationally”.
There are six categories for RICE:
- Outstanding Invention or Tuklas Award
- Outstanding Utility Model
- Outstanding Industrial Design
- Outstanding Creative Research or Likha Award
- Outstanding Student Creative Research or Sibol Award for College
- Outstanding Student Creative Research or Sibol Award for High School
The regional winners will be competing in a higher level during the National Inventions Contest and Exhibits (NICE).
So far, the result for the winners of RICE will be announced tomorrow morning.
