PNP probes ‘harassment’ of Cagayan town police chief

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Philippine National Police (PNP) Cagayan Valley region has ordered for the in-depth investigation on the harassment of the group of Solana town police.

In a press release on Thursday, May 17, the Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) said Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino, the regional police chief, told investigators to “leave no stone unturned” until the suspects are finally identified.

On Tuesday early morning, May 15, the group of Solana town police chief Senior Inspector Renz Baloran was blocked and stormed with gunfire after responding to calls of commotion between the group of Sangguniang Bayan Member Rudy Fernandez and incumbent barangay captain candidate Joel Alilam in Barangay Cariculud.

Investigations showed the team, on board a Toyota Hi-lux police patrol car, were interrupted near the Pangul Bridge in Barangay General Balao when the driver noticed a road barricade on the road.

After a while, three unidentified armed men opened fire to them, prompting them to jump out of the car and sought cover to nearby church.

The suspects fled as back-up team arrived in the crime scene.

Police said they recovered a slipper at a hilly portion where the suspects fled.

Based on record, the said incident is the only recorded harassment case against police in Cagayan Valley. Northernforum.net
