126 teams compete in valley cops’ 13th RD Cup shootfest

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Some 129 teams from Cagayan Valley’s police force participate in the 13th Regional Director’s Cup Invitational Shoot Fest.

The competition kicked off on Tuesday, December 12, in PRO2’s outdoor firing range and will run through Sunday, December 17.

The competitors consist of 12 teams from the regional command center, 31 teams from Cagayan Provincial Police Office (PPO), 39 teams from Isabela PPO, 18 teams from Nueva Vizcaya PPO, eight teams Quirino, four teams from Santiago City, nine teams from regional support units, and five teams from the Regional Mobile Force.

PRO2 said the competition is a level three “Practical Shooters Match Officers Confederation” match consisting of 12 pistol and mini rifle stages with a minimum of 350 rounds, and five shotgun stages. Five pistol stages will be exclusive for the PRO2 match participants.

Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Robert Quenery, represented by PRO2 Deputy Director for Operations Police Senior Superintendent John Cornelius Jambola, said in the opening ceremony that the cup aims to reinforce camaraderie, sportsmanship, and closer ties within the police force.

“This shootfest is not just simply a game nor an entertainment; instead it is generosity and optimism in victory or defeat,” Director Quenery said.

Each team consists of a police commissioned officer, a lady shooter, and three others.

Meanwhile, PRO2 Public Information Officer Superintendent Chevalier Iringan said proceeds from the registration fees will be used to raise funds for the repair of buildings ravaged by supertyphoon Lawin; and for camp improvement for roads and firing range equipment.

“Yun yung pinaglalaanan kasi yung mga tulong na nakukuha sa labas ay hindi naman sapat din yun. Kung kaya’t tayo ay nag-initiate ng fund raising katulad nito,” Iringan said.

Iringan added that the cup will help police to improve their skills, practice firearms proficiency, and promote gun safety awareness.

With a registration fee P500, the cup is open to the public, especially gun enthusiasts. Winners of the cup will be awarded trophies. Northernforum.net
